This depends on what you’re mainly riding. Some riders may prefer the feel of a coil but we prefer an air shock. The air shock will feel more bottomless and is easier to set up on such a heavy bike. Even with volume spacers the air shock does not feel harsh at the end of travel.
Please note: while all air shocks are currently OK for use, Fox/Marzocchi coil shocks are not recommended to be used with this linkage system due to shock yoke length. More information can be found directly from Fox here: https://www.ridefox.com/fox17/help.php?m=bike&id=1138 . Other brands of coil shock may be OK to use.
Setting up your shock at 30% sag will provide more bottom out resistance than the stock link. You can run closer to 27% sag for better bottom out resistance.
Setting up your shock at 30% sag will also provide more small bump sensitivity than the stock link if the damping is properly adjusted, but if you would like more, increase your sag to 32%.
YES. This linkage system requires the use of a 230x65mm shock purchased separately.
